BOTANIC GARDEN CHRISTMAS BELL - LAST EDITION - NO YEAR MARKED
Forget Me Not Motif - Mint In Box!
|
I am happy to present a mint Botanic Garden Christmas bell in its
original box. A green satin ribbon (not easily seen in the photos) is attached to the bell that carries the Forget-Me-Not flower with small pink butterflies. This is the last Edition
in the Botanic Garden Christmas Bell series. There is no year associated with the bell and no further bells were produced after this one.
It is mint and comes in its original Portmeirion box.
A dark green satin ribbon, hard to see in the photos, is tied to the top for hanging.
The Forget-Me-Not flower is an
original 1972 coffee cup motif and remains in production today. It was
based on an illustration by William Clarke in Mrs. Hey's botany
book,Moral of Flowers.

The Portmeirion Botanic Garden Christmas bell series started in 1992 with the
Rhododendron flower and ended in 2000 with the Yellow Jasmine. A new bell was
still made for a few more years in the 2000's but is no longer called a 'Christmas' bell and would be
more appropriately called a 'Year' bell. The bell size and shape are the
same, but the writing is a different color, the word 'Christmas' has been replaced by a saying.
This is the last bell in the series and has no year or saying.

The Forget Me Not bell is seen less often than others. A nice addition to your BG collection!

The year 1998 was the last year satin lined presentation boxes were used for
Christmas bells. A generic example of the new version of the box is shown below.
The box is in very nice condition with no rips or tears.
