BOTANIC GARDEN WHITE CISTUS 14 INCH OVAL BAKING DISH
Retired And Pretty - Gorgeous Cistus Motif - Colorful Orange Butterflies!

I am pleased to offer a lovely Botanic Garden 14 inch oval baking dish featuring the White Cistus motif. Also known as the Spanish Gum Cistus, was referred to as White Cistus after 1985. Both Cistus motifs have been retired for many years. On the outside edge there are many flower buds from the African Daisy. I would estimate the dish to have been made around 1985.

This baker is in really excellent condition with no scratches or crazing, and just a touch of shelf wear on the unglazed outer ring. Please look below to see lots of photos and complete description.

Portmeirion Botanic Garden Cistus Oval Baker

The Spanish Gum Cistus was an original 1972 bread and butter plate motif and retired in 1985. It can be found on many Portmeirion shapes and is also rarely seen on salad plates in a 'Double' form. When the Spanish Gum Cistus was retired from plates it continued to be used on other shapes such as vases and soup tureens. However, after 1985, it was called the White Cistus and did not carry either a common or latin name. The design was inspired by image in a 1824 book,The Universal Herbal by Thomas Green.
