I am pleased to offer a Botanic Garden original Oatmeal Bowl featuring the Purple Iris motif. The Iris is one of the original six oatmeal flowers, retired in 1978, and also one of the four that did not have an assigned name.

The bowl is about as nice as can be with a perfect transfer and glaze and showing almost no signs of use, wear, and NO crazing. Please be sure to look below for more photos and a full description.

It is so rare to find a retired original motif oatmeal bowl in such wonderful condition. It has a Susan Williams Trophy ID mark and was likely made sometime between 1978 and 1982.


The Purple Iris was one of the four original oatmeal motifs, introduced in 1972 and retired early in 1978, that did not have a Latin name printed next to the common name. The other three unnamed oatmeal motifs were retired in the same year. The design was inspired by an image in the 1840 botany book La Flore des Dames by A. Jacquemart.

Size	About 6-1/2" across the top and 2" high
Transfer	Excellent, no fading, and colorful with no flaws
Ground	Very white
Glaze	Nice shiny glaze with no flaws and NO crazing.
Chips/Cracks	None
Stains	None
Use Marks	Almost none. Mentioned only to be completely accurate, on the bottom foot where it sits there are a few unglazed area where it shows some shelf wear. Very minor.
Other Comments	A wonderful original Purple Iris oatmeal bowl in exceptional condition!
