I am pleased to present a minty Botanic Garden egg cup in the Common Tormentil or Potentilla Erecta motif. Both the egg cup shape and Tormentil flower are retired.

This is the newer version of the egg cup shape and is no longer available. The original shape is flat and also referred to as a candle holder.

It is in excellent condition with no signs of use, flaws or wear.

It has a lime green oval 2nds ID mark and sold at Portmeirion's factory store in the UK. I do not see any flaws whatsoever, not even any little cosmetic glitches. It was likely made after the egg cup shape was retired using left over transfers.


The Tormentil motif was an original coffee cup motif, introduced in 1972 and retired in 1985. It was still used on ramekins and egg cups until 1999 when it was retired on all shapes. The design was inspired by image in a 1824 book, The Universal Herbal by Thomas Green.

This egg cup has an interesting brown butterfly and two pale yellow ones.

The ID mark on the inside of the bottom is a green oval 2nds ID. There are no flaws that I can see and was likely made after the egg cup shape was retired.
