I am pleased to offer a Portmeirion Birds Of Britain 13 inch oval platter featuring the Wood Duck or Aix Sponsa. This motif is unusual because there is both a female and male bird along with hatched nestlings. There is a green band around the edge which was discontinued many, many years ago. This platter has a rim while many platters do not have a rim.

The platter is in excellent shiny condition with no crazing and just a few very minor and hard to see signs use. Please be sure to look below and see the complete description more photos.


The Birds Of Britain pattern illustrations were taken from the 'Natural History Of British Birds' by Edward Donovan which was printed in 1794.

The single bird version of this motif is usually found on dinner plates and two bird version on platter and other larger pieces.

Size	About 13-1/4" by 9-1/2" across the top and 10" by 6-1/2" across the bottom The rim is approximately 3/4" wide
Transfer	The motif has nice bright colors and not faded at all. The only flaw I see is a tiny pinhead sized transfer cut in the left bird. Very minor and only noticed when looking closely in a very bright light. Too small to catch in a photo.
Ground	Very white
Glaze	Nice shiny glaze overall with no flaws seen. There is NO CRAZING which is so common on the older BOB dishes.
Chips/Cracks	None
Stains	None
Use Marks	Almost none. There are a few very narrow, shallow and short stacking marks likely from another item stacked on top. Difficult to see unless looking sideways in a bright light.
Other Comments	The bottom has full glaze applied. Some Portmeirion platters have an unglazed bottom for use in the oven. Because of the age of this item, it would not be advisable to use in the oven or microwave or subject it to any temperature extremes. Very pretty retired and rare green band Birds Of Britain Wood Duck platter!

The bottom is fully glazed so should be used for serving only and not baking.
