BIRDS OF BRITAIN MUTE SWAN 12 INCH FLAN DISH
Rare Bird In Series - Largest Size In Shiny Condition!

I am happy to offer a large size 12 inch wide Birds Of Britain flan dish featuring a Mute Swan with nestlings. The Swan is one of the more rare birds in the series and highly sought after.

The dish is in excellent shiny condition with no indication of use or wear. The only flaw I see is to the right of the bird where there is an area, under the glaze, with a transfer factory flaw. Easily seen in the photos. Please be sure to look below for close up photos and a complete description.

Portmeirion Birds Of Britain Flan Baking Dish

The Birds Of Britain pattern illustrations were taken from the 'Natural History Of British Birds' by Edward Donovan which was printed in 1794.

Note the area to the right of the bird's tail where the transfer has a few faults. The area is fully under the glaze.

Size About 12" across and 1-3/4" high
Transfer Bright and colorful with no fading

To the right of the bird's tail there is an area where there are some transfer skips. It can easily be seen in the close up photo above. Harder to see, there is a similar pin head sized skip under the bird's leg. THE FLAW IS TOTALLY UNDER THE GLAZE so is fully food safe.
Ground Very white on the glazed areas. The unglazed bottom is off white from oxidation over the years. Please see the photo of the bottom below.

There is a very tiny speck if sand, to small to catch in a photo, embedded in the glaze just under the bird motif. These little specks are very common on the older Portmeirion.
Glaze No crazing with very shiny glaze. The bottom is unglazed for use in the oven.
Chips/Cracks None
Stains None
Use Marks None - not even any little stacking marks from another item stored on top
Other Comments A rare and excellent Mute Swan Birds Of Britain baking item!

There is an embossed 'Portmeirion - Fully Vitrified - Made In England' ID Mark on the bottom. This backstamp is common on older Portmeirion baking dishes.
