BOTANIC GARDEN EASTERN HYACINTH SALAD PLATE
Very Nice Plate With Newer Version Of The Motif With Blue Flowers!
|
I am pleased to offer a Botanic Garden salad plate in the Eastern Hyacinth
or Hyacinthus Orientalis motif. This Hyacinth plate displays the insect version
used after 1985 and the flower petal color is more of a blue vs. the original version which is green.
It is in very nice condition with no signs of use, shiny glaze,
and no crazing. It is new, but without a UPC tag and came from a boxed set without tags on each piece.
The Hyacinth motif was an
original 1972 flower on salad plates and still remains in production today.
There is also an Oriental Hyacinth listed in Portmeirion's Botanic Garden
catalog and shows this motif as retired in 1985. As far as I can tell, they
both have 'Eastern Hyacinth' as the common name and 'Hyacinthus Orientalis'
as the latin name. In 1985 there was a color and insect arrangement change.
The older version (called Oriental) has a more green while the newer (called Eastern)
has a more blue flower. Both motifs are based on an image found in a
1824 botany book, The Universal Herbal by Thomas Green.
