BIRDS OF BRITAIN GREY PHALAROPE 10" PIE DISH
Unusual Baking Dish With Retired Bird!
|
I am happy to offer a rare and sought after Portmeirion Birds Of Britain
pie baking dish featuring the Grey Phalarope bird. Pie baking dishes have not
been produced for many years. This dish also has the older green band edge
decoration rather than the newer acorn sprig design.
It is in overall excellent condition with no crazing and few, if any, signs of use. The only issue I see is a small pin head sized cut in the transfer probably from another item stacked on top. There is a partial sticker on the bottom so it likely has never been used for baking. Please be sure to look below to see more photos and a full description.
It has an
unglazed bottom and can be used to bake pies in the oven. This shape has been
retired for some years now and is no longer in production.

The Birds Of Britain pattern
illustrations were taken from the 'Natural History Of British Birds' by
Edward Donovan which was printed in 1794.

Size |
10-3/4" across the top, 8-1/2" from inner rim to inner rim, a
little over 1-1/2" deep

Transfer |
Bright and colorful with no fading. There is a tiny cut in the transfer
that can be seen in the close up photo just under the bird's breast. It
is likely from another plate stacked on top rather then utensils or use.

I doubt it was used as there is a partial sticker still attached to the
