CARDEW BOTANIC GARDEN 'SUMMER' WICKER ARM CHAIR TEAPOT
Retired Four Seasons Series Teapot With Botanic Garden Miniatures!

I am happy to present a rare and hard to find medium Cardew Portmeirion Botanic Garden Wicker Arm Chair teapot. Part of the Paul Cardew Four Seasons series, this is the 'Summer' teapot in a dark forest green with Botanic Garden miniatures on the lid and seat. It is in excellent condition with some very clean and fine crazing in white areas and two very tiny factory flaws. Please be sure to look below to see a full description and lots of photos.

As on most other Cardew - Portmeirion Botanic Garden teapots, there is a great attention to detail. This teapot might have been made in China. The ID mark on the bottom does not say 'Made in England' nor does it say where it is made.

The teapot depicts a comfortable and cool wicker arm chair with a plush pillow which holds an open book about plants and large Botanic Garden Forget Me Not bowl of fruit. A white comforter with Rhododendron accents is draped over the back and seat.

Any white spots are from photo lighting. I did not try to eliminate them because they tend to help show detail in the wicker.

The printing on the book is actually readable if magnified.

I think the Seasons teapot design was retired in 2000 or 2001.

The teapot is approximately 8-1/2" from handle to spout, 5-1/2" high at the top and 3-1/2" deep at the bottom. The liquid capacity is about 2 cups. It should be used for display only.

There are no chips or cracks and all the miniature pieces are present. The silver edging on the quilt is shiny with no rubs or missing paint.

There is very fine and very clean crazing in spots on the Botanic Garden minis. I could only see it under a very bright light. On the edge of the handle there are two tiny factory paint skips that are about the size of a pin head each. They were too small to catch in a photo.

This rare Cardew teapot will be packed very securely and well for shipping to its new owner.

Consistent with Cardew, even the back of the chair has a design with nice detail.

Under the lid, more of the Rhododendron comforter is found.

The ID mark on the bottom is in gold with an oval Portmeirion logo used in the early 2000's. The wording, also in gold, says:

Handwash Only

Made under license, Modelleded and handcrafted, by Cardew Design

Because the ID mark does not say where it is made, I suspect it was made in China. This photo is from another Cardew teapot with a white bottom and included so you can see exactly what the ID mark looks like.
