BOTANIC GARDEN UNIQUE PURPLE ROCK ROSE SOUP BOWL - ONE OF A KIND
Unusual Bowl Made About 10 Years Ago With A Green Band Rim - Excellent!
|
I am pleased to offer a unique Purple Rock Rose or Cistus Purpureus 8 inch soup bowl. It was made
from a typical Botanic Garden soup bowl shape with a green band rim (as used on Compleat
Angler and Birds of Britain ranges). In the center, there is a ring of green laurel around the Rock Rose motif. I
estimate it was made about 10 years ago, was for sale only in Portmeirion's factory store, and not found in the general BG catalog.
Because it was a special edition, there is a green oval 2nds ID mark on the back. There are no quality
issues seen. It is in mint condition with no signs of use, no crazing, has shiny glaze, and bright beautiful
colorful transfer. It is something a little different in Botanic Garden and a nice accent piece.
The Rock Rose motif was
introduced in 1980 on salad plates and retired not too long ago in 2002.
It was inspired by image in an 1824 book,The Universal Herbal
by Thomas Green.
