BOTANIC GARDEN BARBADOES COTTON FLOWER PIN DISH
Retired In 1998 - Original Motif Version - Excellent!
|
I am pleased to offer a retired Botanic Garden Cotton Flower (or Gossypium
Barbadense) pin dish. The Cotton Flower motif has been changed often over
the years and this item carries the very first version also found on the
original oatmeal bowls.
It is in super condition with shiny glaze, beautiful transfer, and no signs of
use. As common on older Botanic Garden, there are three very short and hard to see lines of crazing on the inside wall.
The Cotton Flower was originally used in 1972 on oatmeal bowls, then on
bread and butter plates in 1976, and finally retired in 1988. The motif
was based on an antique 1830 botany book Flora Conspicua by
Richard Morris and William Clarke.
The Cotton Flower has gone through several different insect arrangements
over the years. Also, there are varieties with one, two, three, and four
flower heads. This item has the original version with one flower head and is
identical to the arrangement on the original oatmeal bowls.
During the late 1970's and early 1980's, Portmeirion used a numbering system
on some motifs. This item has a green number 4 near the bottom of the flower.
