BOTANIC GARDEN ORIGINAL OATMEAL BOWL - PURPLE IRIS
Original Oatmeal Motif Flower Retired Years Ago - Near Mint Bowl!

I am pleased to offer a Botanic Garden original Oatmeal Bowl featuring the Purple Iris motif. The Iris is one of the original six oatmeal flowers, retired in 1978, and also one of the four that did not have an assigned name.

The bowl is about as nice as can be with a perfect transfer and glaze and showing almost no signs of use, wear, or crazing. Please be sure to look below for more photos and a full description.

It is so rare to find a retired original motif oatmeal bowl in such wonderful condition. It has a version of the Crest ID backstamp and was likely made around 1982. Crest ID items have more resistance against crazing.

Portmeirion Botanic Garden Purple Iris Oatmeal Bowl

The Purple Iris was one of the four original oatmeal motifs, introduced in 1972 and retired early in 1978, that did not have a Latin name printed next to the common name. The other three unnamed oatmeal motifs were retired in the same year. The design was inspired by an image in the 1840 botany book La Flore des Dames by A. Jacquemart.

The oatmeal bowl is marked on the bottom with an early version (with brown ribbons) of the Crest ID backstamp. Dishes with this backstamp are less likely to get crazing.

The bottom is marked with a Crest ID that has brown rather than green ribbons. It was used early in 1982. Please click the link to the right if you would like to learn more about this Botanic Garden backstamp.
