BOTANIC GARDEN COTTON FLOWER SPICE JAR - ORIGINAL VERSION
Retired Original Oatmeal Bowl Flower - Very Nice!

I am pleased to offer a Botanic Garden Barbados Cotton Flower or Gossypium Barbadense three inch high spice jar with a wooden lid. This motif is one of the six original oatmeal bowl flowers and is the original motif design. The Cotton Flower was later used on bread and butter plates and retired in 1988.

The canister is in very nice condition with just one or two short, hard to see, and very clean crazing but little other signs of use! Even the bottom is quite clean and has excellent varnish on the lid. Please be sure to look below and see the full description and more photos...

Portmeirion Botanic Garden Spice Jar Canister

The Cotton Flower was originally used in 1972 on oatmeal bowls, then on bread and butter plates in 1976, and finally retired in 1988. The motif was based on an antique 1830 botany book Flora Conspicua by Richard Morris and William Clarke.

The Cotton Flower has gone through several different insect arrangements over the years. Also, there are varieties with one, two, three, and four flower heads. This item is the original version and has one flower bud.

Other Comments There is no wear on the original straight sided wooden lid as is so common on older BG canister lids and the varnish is not dried or cracked. The sealing gasket, however, is a little loose and dry. Replacement gaskets should be available if you email Portmeirion Pottery.
