BOTANIC GARDEN 10 INCH PEDESTAL DISH - WHITE CISTUS
Retired And Very Unusual Rare Piece!

I am pleased to offer a Botanic Garden 10.25 inch wide pedestal dish in the White Cistus motif. Named the White Cistus after the Spanish Gum Cistus was retired in 1985, this motif was used for a short time after the original Spanish Gum Cistus was discontinued. This piece is a rare configuration of a dinner plate set on a pedestal. The plate is an unusual dinner plate version featuring three Cistus transfers.

The dish is in overall great condition with no crazing or flaws, perfect transfers, and wonderful shiny glaze. There are only a few very hard to see and minor common stacking marks from another item stacked on top. Please be sure to see the photos and full description below.

The pedestal dish shape also has been retired for many years, making this a very desirable Botanic Garden piece.

(Please excuse any white areas in the green Laurel border that are only glare from photo lighting.
The laurel is complete and perfect in person.)

The Spanish Gum Cistus was an original 1972 bread and butter plate motif and retired in 1985. It can be found on many Portmeirion shapes and is also rarely seen on salad plates in a 'Double' form. When the Spanish Gum Cistus was retired from plates it continued to be used on other shapes such as vases and soup tureens. However, after 1985, it was called the White Cistus and did not carry a common or latin name. The design was inspired by image in a 1824 book,The Universal Herbal by Thomas Green.

Condition Button
Size Just over 10-1/4" across the top and about 2-1/2" high
Transfer All are very bright, crisp, colorful and perfect with no flaws
Ground Very white
Glaze No crazing and nice shiny glaze. The glaze on this dish is exceptionally shiny.
Chips/Cracks None
Stains None, except a tiny bit of shelf wear on the unglazed bottom foot
Use Marks There are a few very shallow and hard to see marks on the face of the plate that I could only see sideways in a bright light. They are likely from another item stacked on top. Very inconsequential and mentioned to make a complete description.
Other Comments A very rare Cistus item for your table or collection!
