PORTMEIRION CHEMIST PRINTS 'JOWETT CHARCOAL FILTER' JUMBO MUG
Retired And Hard To Find In Colors - Vintage Portmeirion Item!

I am pleased to offer a vintage Portmeirion 'W. M. Jowett Charcoal Filter' Chemist Prints large 20 oz jumbo mug. The Chemist Prints pattern have not been made in many, many years. The cup has the usual crazing found on older Portmeirion and there are also two tight hard to see hairline cracks toward the back and away from the transfer. So please be sure to see the complete description below.

The color in the photos below is a little washed out on the center right side of the transfer because of a little photo light glare. In person, the color is a consistent blue.

Soon after Susan Williams-Ellis bought Kirkham Pottery around 1960, she produced a new pattern called Medicine Prints based on old copper engravings found in Kirkham's attic. Shortly after, Medicine Prints turned into Chemist Prints and was sold throughout the 1960's. Chemist Prints are found on many different shapes and transfers are found in both color and black and white.

Condition Button
Size Cup - 3-3/4" high and 4-7/8" wide at the widest (without handle)
Saucer - 8" across
Capacity - 20 oz liquid
Transfer There is one transfer on the front of the cup. It is a consistent color with no flaws except a white paint skip near the J at the top. It can be seen in the photos abpve.
Ground Very white
Glaze Overall clean crazing is present, common on older pieces of Portmeirion.
Chips/Cracks Toward the back of the cup there are two tight hairline cracks. The lines are clean and I only noticed them in a bright light. The cup still 'rings' in that area, but the lines are definitely hairlines around 2" long.
Stains None, except for a very little bit of shelf wear on the unglazed bottom foot
Use Marks It is very clean on both the inside and outside with no scratches
Other Comments A very interesting and unusual piece of vintage Portmeirion!

The bottom is fully marked with the oval Portmeirion Chemist Print ID in black.
