BOTANIC GARDEN CITRON 5.5 INCH FRUIT BOWL WITH SPEEDWELL BORDER
Very, Very Rare Piece - Mint Condition With No Wear Or Crazing!
|
I am pleased to offer a rare Botanic Garden 5.5 inch fruit bowl with a
Citrus or Citron motif in the center and Speedwell around the outside.
This example has a green number 4 near the plant name - very unusual on the Citron. The
Citron was an original bread and
butter motif introduced in 1972 and was discontinued early in 1980. It rarely found in fruit bowls.
This bowl is in wonderful condition with a perfect motif, no signs of use
or scratches and NO crazing! Please see the full description below.
The Citron motif was discontinued long ago and has
not been produced in many years. It was an original bread and butter plate
motif, introduced in 1972 and retired in 1980. It was inspired by image in a
1824 book,The Universal Herbal by Thomas Green.
---> Outside Speedwell Motif <---
The Speedwell flower is an original 1972 coffee cup motif and remains in
production today. It was based on an illustration by William Clarke in
Mrs. Hey's botany book,Moral of Flowers.
During the late 1970's and early 1980's, Portmeirion used a numbering system
on some motifs. This item has a very pale green number 4 near the bottom of the flower.
