I am happy to offer a one of a kind hand painted Portmeirion Llanelly Cockerel flat egg cup. The ID mark on the bottom is hand printed and says 'MENNA GARREG CYMRU'. This egg cup was likely never mass produced in the Cockerel pattern and this might be the only one.

It is in nice condition with only overall very clean crazing and some shelf wear on the bottom unglazed foot. The is a Welsh design and would go very well with Portmeirion's Welsh Dresser pattern.


This pattern, like Welsh Dresser, emulates old Llanelli Ware. Produced for 100 years, but unable to compete with other potters, Llanelli Ware stopped production in the early 1900's. All Portmeirion's hand painted patterns were discontinued in the 1990's.

The writing on the bottom probably means:

MENNA - Angharad Menna, Susan Williams-Ellis' daughter who was active in creating some Portmeirion designs.
GARREG - There is a national park close to Portmeirion with this name, but this might be a designer's name.
CYMRU - Welsh name for Wales and also Welsh for "Land of the Cymry".

Size	About 3" across at the base, 2-1/2" across at the top 1-1/2" high
Paint	Found on front and back, the Cockerel paintings are perfect, bright, and well done
Ground	Very white
Glaze	The glaze has nice shine overall, but has VERY clean crazing throughout. The crazing can be seen if you look closely at the photos above. Otherwise, I do not see any glaze flaws.
Chips/Cracks	None
Stains	None, except some shelf wear on the bottom unglazed foot where it sits on a surface. Please see the photo below.

Other Comments	A very unique, possibly the only one like it, hand painted Llanelli Cockerel egg cup!

The ID mark is a hand printed MENNA GARREG CYMRU and obviously a sample item.
