I am happy to offer a Pomona egg cup featuring both the Wilmots Early Red and Queen Of Sheba gooseberry fruits. These fruit motifs have been retired for a number of years and are now difficult to find. It is nice that both fruits have the Gooseberry name printed in script.

Sometimes these flat egg cups are used as votive candle holders, however, not recommended because it could easily get crazing from the heat.

It is in excellent condition with no flaws that I can see. However, it has an oval mustard color 2nds ID mark on the bottom. This ID is used on 2nd quality items as well as samples and special decorations. Usually I can see a factory flaw on pieces with this ID, however, in this case I do not see any flaw at all. It may have been made after the Gooseberry fruits were retired.


Both Pomona Gooseberries were retired many years ago, although, used as accents on many pieces. These two fruits are now hard to find with the fruit name on the motif.

Size	3" across at the base, 2-1/2" across at the top 1-1/2" high
Transfer	Each Gooseberry is repeated twice around the egg cup and all are bright and colorful with no flaws or damage
Ground	Very white
Glaze	Perfect, shiny with no flaws and NO crazing

Stains	None, except for a slight bit of shelf wear on the unglazed bottom ring where it sits
Use Marks	None
Other Comments	A nice Gooseberry retired and practical Pomona item!

The bottom is marked with a mustard color (used until sometime in the early 1980's) 2nds ID mark. As mentioned above, I do not see any flaws at all.
