RARE
LARGE POMONA VICTORIAN TEA TABLE TEAPOT By Cardew - Retired
Design!
|
I am pleased to offer a rare and very beautiful large
Portmeirion Pomona Victorian Tea Table Cardew teapot. As I understand
it, seven days are required to complete each pot and each is made
entirely by hand. It is an amazingly complex and well crafted piece that
would be a highlight in any Pomona or Cardew collection.
It is in excellent condition with no crazing seen and only a few pin point tiny specks of missing
paint on two of the bottom feet. Please be sure to look below for many more photos and a complete description.
It is in
wonderful condition with no crazing that I could see. On two of the black feet, there are
a few tiny pin point spots of missing paint about the size of the tip of a pin
and too small to be measured. Otherwise, I do not see any flaws or damage anywhere on the teapot.
Any
white spots in the photos are only from lighting glare, mostly seen in
the folds of the tablecloth and black feet.
Cardew teapots are incredibly
fragile and it will be packed with great care. If the outdoor
temperature is hot or cold where I am in Northern Illinois or wherever
you are, it would be best to ship it to a place where somebody can
receive it directly from the letter carrier. Otherwise, sitting
outdoors, it could easily get glaze crazing.
The teapot is
almost 12" from handle to spout and about 7" high. To give you an idea
of the size of the miniatures, the little coffee pot on the top is
1-3/4" high.
---> Left Side <---
Six Portmeirion Pomona fruits are pictured on the side of a
white victorian tablecloth. One side features named Pomona fruits of
'Grimwoods Royal George' peach, 'The Hoary Morning Apple', and 'The
Reine Claude Plum'. On the other side we have 'The Red Current'
(retired), 'The Teinton Squash Pear', and 'Late Duke Cherry'. The bottom
edge of the tablecloth has a ring of the familiar Pomona ivy leaves.
There are two gold painted pieces that attach the handle to the body
of the pot. The gold is nice and shiny with no rubs or missing gold.
---> Front And Back <---
The lace pattern table top carries an assortment of
Pomona and fruit miniatures. There is a Grimwoods Royal George peach
coffee pot, Late Duke Cherry coffee cup and saucer, one plate in Reine
Claude Plum and another in Hoary Morning Apple. The most prominent
feature of the table top is a Pomona compote with six small Pomona fruit
transfers around the outside of the dish. The dish itself is filled with
apples, lemons, bananas and grapes. Finishing off the table setting is a
book open to a page describing various Portmeirion patterns. The book
page writing and pictures are actually readable with the aid of good
lighting and a magnifying glass.

Views Of Lid <---
This teapot was made in June 1995
according to the hand printed number on the bottom. The Cardew
collector's club verified that the 06/95 mark on the bottom represents
the date of manufacture rather than a limited edition number.
There is a remnant of a UPC code on the bottom left side. I will remove it before shipping the teapot.

This lovely teapot is for use as a
decorative item only and not for everyday use. It should be washed in a
mild dish detergent and warm water.
