BOTANIC GARDEN EASTERN HYACINTH 11" OVAL PLATE
Mint With Tags Brand New Platter!
|
I am pleased to offer a new 11 inch oval plate that carries the Eastern Hyacinth or Hyacinthus Orientalis
motif. It is in new condition with the UPC code still attached at the back! Please see the photos below.
The Hyacinth motif was an
original 1972 flower on salad plates and still remains in production today.
There is also an Oriental Hyacinth listed in Portmeirion's Botanic Garden
catalog and shows this motif as retired in 1985. As far as I can tell, they
both have 'Eastern Hyacinth' as the common name and 'Hyacinthus Orientalis'
as the latin name. In 1985 there was a color and insect arrangement change.
The older version (called Oriental) has a more green while the newer (called Eastern)
has a more blue flower. Both motifs are based on an image found in a
1824 botany book, The Universal Herbal by Thomas Green.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This platter is the newer style that has a smooth transition from the rim to the
face. There is also an older style that has a flat rim and angled slant
from the rim to the face. If you have the older style, this plate may not stack properly with it.
