BOTANIC GARDEN SPANISH GUM CISTUS ROMANTIC VASE
Medium Hard To Find Size - Rare Shape And Retired Motif!
|
I am pleased to offer a medium size 6.5 inch Spanish Gum Cistus or Cistus Ladaniferus
retired romantic shape vase. This medium size is unusual and the flower
has been retired from the range since 1985.
This attractive vase is in excellent condition with no flaws or signs of use!
A factory flaw, it has a very slight wobble when sitting on a flat surface.
Please see the full description and more photos below.
The Spanish Gum Cistus was an original 1972 bread and butter plate motif and retired in
1985. It can be found on many Portmeirion shapes and is also rarely seen on salad
plates in a 'Double' form. When the Spanish Gum Cistus was retired from
plates it continued to be used on other shapes such as vases and soup
tureens. However, after 1985, it was called the White Cistus and did not carry either a
common or latin name. The design was inspired by image in a 1824 book,The Universal
Herbal by Thomas Green.

Other Comments |
When sitting on a flat surface, it has a slight wobble. Caused at the
factory, is quite minor and inconsequential. Actually, a little uneven base is
not terribly unusual on older Portmeirion vases.
Very pretty and unusual size vase featuring a retired and hard to find Botanic Garden
Spanish Gum Cistus motif and retired lovely Romantic shape!
