CYCLAMEN MEDIUM SIZED UTENSIL JAR
Unusual Size POSSIBLE FAKE But Useful Countertop Jar !
|
I am pleased to offer a 6-1/4 inch tall Cyclamen utensil jar. However, it may be a fake because:
1. There is no ID mark on the bottom.
2. The way the pottery is formed, especially on the bottom, is not like Portmeirion.
3. I do not think a Utensil Jar was ever made in this size. There are
only 8 and 5 inch high jars.
4. The decoration along the upper edge is not the usual green laurel. I
have seen this style of leaf before, but not sure I saw it on Botanic Garden.
But, the transfer surely looks like a Botanic Garden Cyclamen transfer and
cannot tell any difference when looking side by side with an authentic Cyclamen. I cannot
imagine why somebody would want to go through a big effort to reproduce this
jar when there are other more rare shapes and flowers to fake.
If you are looking for an interesting size in the utensil jar, this one may be for you.
The Ivy Leaved Cyclamen flower was an original oatmeal bowl motif, introduced in 1972,
moved to a B & B plate in 1985, and still remains in production today. There
are two different insect and flower versions. The oldest has four flower
heads and the newer has nine heads. It was based on an image in an 1840
book,La Flore des Dames by A. Jacquemart.

There were at least two sizes made in the utensil jars. A photo for
comparison is below. The right (7-1/2" high) and left (5-1/4" high) jars are authentic Portmeirion and
the middle, the jar in this listing, is likely a fake.

Other Comments |
A very unusual Cyclamen item, possible Botanic Garden fake!
|
There is no ID mark on the bottom. The unglazed edge looks like it has a good
amount of shelf wear, but it is not. The darker outside edge is how the pottery was made.

The bottom carries a Crest ID mark Please
